And a Jazz/Soul one (basically, Miles Davis & Gil Evans, with a huge lump of Marvin Gaye in the middle):

It needs a way to comment on songs...

Never heard this song by Elton John before, Tyl -- it's cool :)

That second playlist is more to my taste Dell. Kind of Blue is one of my favourite albums ever, I also really like Sketches of Spain.

I have been meaning to try Marvin Gaye out though as I like a fair bit of soul (Al Green, Aretha Franklin etc). So this will be a good place to start.

Vorte I can invite you, post or pm me your email address.

Abe says, "Man, you must be puttin' me on"
God say, "No."
Abe say, "What?"
God say, "You can do what you want Abe, but the next time you see me comin' you better run"
Well Abe says, "Where do you want this killin' done?"

Yea, Kind of Blue is lovely :)

The rest of Out of the Cool is great also. A lot of the jazz albums that I have aren't on Spotify (I guess because the jazz guys were just so damn prolific...)

What's Going On is quite different from the rest of Gaye's stuff -- the rest is still quite 'R&B Sex God' kind of thing. What's Going On is often considered one of the best albums of all time, tho'.

Will check out Sketches of Spain!

You might want to check out the 'Kind of Blue / Porgy & Bess / Sketches of Spain' album on Spotify -- Porgy & Bess is a good intro to musicals and light operetta... and performed by Miles Davis! YEAH!

You can link directly to albums too Dell. Here is another awesome Miles Davis one, In A Silent Way.

Cool :)

Just building up to the second crescendo in Sketches of Spain at the moment.

My grandmother used to watch him live regularly... And Ella Fizgerald and Sammy Davis Jr...

Damn her.

This album of Marvin Gaye's is even more jazzy than What's Going On:

http://open.spotify.com/album/6EmPqDm8w7Yv8AEpBdj3q5 -- Let's Get It On (with the title track being the song that we all know and love). Listen through the first 8 tracks, which is the original album release.

Track 9 is a delicious instrumental jazzy/soul number. The rest is OK, worth a listen if you want to get to know his music a bit better I guess :)
