User Interface discussion.
« on: April 30, 2009, 09:59:25 am »
Greetings Iron Edge members, and also outsiders. I thought now when I don't work today, I thought I'd create this thread. This thread is made for people who either wants to ask eachother, about what addons etcetra they should get and actually get an answer, or just for people to show their user interfaces and tip others.

I've my self done a lot of diffrent user interfaces in my days of World of Warcraft, and I must say I've succeed with the most, for many diffrent classes, and/or playstyles.

So here is my present User Interface, made for my Death Knight, and got some special features that other classes don't need.

Screenshot -:

Addons used :- (I use Both 3.0, and 3.1 addons, as I havn't got to update).

BugGrabber.
BugSack.

Informant.
kgPanels.
Magicrunes.
MetaMap.
Omen3.
OmniCC.

Prat 3.1.
Quartz.
RatingBuster.
Recount.
simpleMinimap.
Skinner.

That's my present User interface. Now feel free to post your own, or ask questions about just.. User Interfaces, which this thread is made for!

how can you claim atlasloot isnt useful :(

I use it several times every day. To look up rewards from rep. to look up mats for craftables, enchants and pots. To find loot.

To help people in /g that is asking for a crafter to tell them mats for an item.

Well.. it's more that I don't really use it more than when it's time to see new drops from bosses.

I don't like black on my screen.  All my chat windows and such are translucent, if not totally transparent.  It makes for a much better interface when there's not much going on (all the chat windows just disappear from the screen)

So, I find myself back trying to find textures to use for alternative borders in wow via skinner and other addons, and it always seems like no bugger is making any. This was also the case a year and a half ago, and I dug up this post I made from then in the hopes it will be useful to others who might feel like dabbling in changing the way wow looks more completely.

******** engaging ctrl+v *******

Heyo - thought I'd share what I learned regarding wow border textures.

Best way is to show you the image I used to discover it, and the texture I made that's in use in the UI I posted above.

Ok, the texture is actually split into eight parts, as follows:
The red panel contains the left and right side border tiles.
The blue panel is the top and bottom border tiles .rotated 90 degrees counter-clockwise, which is to say the left half is the top bar (with the leftmost part being the uppermost part) and the right half is the bottom bar (with the rightmost part being the lowest part).
The green panel has the top left and top right corner textures in it.
The yellow panel has the bottom left and right corner textures in it.

This is the texture in use in my current UI. Personally I found for the corner graphics it's a LOT easier to create them in a seperate document in a square shape, then scale the horizontal down to squish the image so that it'll look right when the game stretches it back out again.

If you're making your own, don't forget you need to save the file in targa (.tga) format, with an alpha channel that's got the right black/white/grey values to let wow know which parts are meant to be transparent (there are tonnes of tutorials out there, but short and simple is on alpha channel, black is invisible and white if fully visible, while different greys inbetween are semi-translucent). In my case, on my alpha channel the areas you see that are white were black for the alpha channel, and the border had all white over it.
