Internet in London
« on: January 08, 2010, 04:53:10 pm »
Haj thar!

My lady-friend is going to London the 30th of January for a 5 month intern-ship. She'll be living in or somewhere near down town London. And the room she is getting doesn't have internet access. And in order for her to speak with me (which is of great importance!) she needs internet.

So my question is, can anyone recommend a good internet connection, doesn't have to be high-speed, just enough for her to chat and search some stuff on-line. And it doesn't have to be expensive, as cheap as possible really ;p

Thanks in advance.

All broadband services in the UK is comparable, unless you pay a lot.

Just pick an upper limit (£15/month?) and find the best package.

Can easily find an unlimited-traffic deal for £20/month or less I think.
Now I run a tech website.

Oke, sounds good. Do you have any names of services perhaps? Ones which you say are decent, I know in Holland we have some badness services that we should avoid *cough* Tele2 *cough*.

I think in London it won't matter.

Generally Virgin is considered quite bad? But again, depends on the area more than the provider.

If you take one of the 4-star providers in that list, you should be 'safe' (but they are generally more expensive too).

Personally I use Be, but your girlfriend probably doesn't need 24mbit/unmetered to Skype you. Unless she also likes downloading TV...

Make sure you dont get a 12-month contract if she'll only be there for 5 months.  Most broadband in the uk comes with a long contract!

Pay-as-you go (10 pound for 30 gb traffic?) was the only thing I could buy being a norweigan with no english bankaccount. )=
I tried searching for some proper internet without 12 month contract to put in the landlords name, but the landlord wouldn't contribute with anything. bitch.

Looking back at my 3 months in England, I wish I had bought proper internet from day one and paid 12 months full price.

Avoid Tiscrapi/TalkTalk, you get what you pay for with them.  If it's DSL I can always recommend PlusNet, but Sky etc aren't that shocking these days.  Be are also fairly competitive unless you have trouble and want to speak to their Bulgarian tech support.
