The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus.
« on: March 26, 2010, 02:24:02 pm »
Not sure what to say about this movie, or how to rate it tbh. I need to watch it a couple of times more but so far it get's a 8/10. (Which is a high raiting since i rarely go over a 8 :) )

I liked the story of this movie and the vibe of it.
Combine that with lots of short cameo's (sp?) of well know actor's (It was also Ledger's last movie) and Lily Cole who just kept me watching with my mouth open. Not so because of her acting performance (Was nothing wrong with that keeping in mind she just started.) but purely her looks.
She just has such a strange, out of this world surreal porceline puppetlike face that i was totaly in trance and sticked to the screen like a windowlicker. And lets be honest she's cute.
Basicly the whole movie has that surreal, fantasy kinda vibe over it, combined that with great costumes a good story and a dark undertone and you got yourself a cult hit imo.

One to watch!

Cute Lily Cole

She'd been even cuter after eating a real diet for some time.  Damn stick thin models, give me "plus size" anyday.

Yeah, wouldn't fit..

Anywhoo.. weird movie. My gf started playing Doodle jump on her iPhone after 7 minutes and I gotta say, it would probably've been more interesting with some mary-jane

i liked the surreal script. The acting was not good. Nobody was at the focus as the lead actor (ofc that's because the acciddent happened to Heath L.)
so i guess Terry Gilliam made his best with what he had in his hands. With heath ledger, no doubt the movie would be better.
So in many ways, the movie was confusing. The re-touched script i guess, was the cause.
Artistic, but unstable storytelling. The movie could be more then what it is.
4/10

How was it confusing? The "other actor in imaginarium" scenes prob would have worked even if Ledger hadn't died. Pretty smooth rewrite/replacement IMO.

Anyway, good watch. Very imaginative and great design all around.

I liked this one aswell, and it's hard to like movies when you're me since I watch most movies with friends who have a deep interest in findings faults and criticizing movies.

So yeah, I watched it! Not sure if it was the beer, but at some time throughout the movie everything stopped making sense
