First vanity pets, now mount - Whats next ?

Well, it is a vanity mount, just like mounts from trading cards - so what's new? It doesn't alter game-play, and it scales with your current fastest in-game mount.

It's a little bit different though with this mount, after all it's a more amazingly skinned version of the mount you get from killing Lich King 25m hard mode - something only two guilds in the entire world have accomplished so far, and not for lack of trying from others. Previously, the Blizz store has only sold stuff that's unique but different to what's available in game, rather than the same as the most difficult to achieve task in game, but with a cooler skin. Even the trading card mounts were either just different to existing mounts e.g. the rocket flying mount, (although there's the love rocket youc an just get from doing in game achievements), and the spectral tiger, which while cool is fairly rare and doesn't have that nasty "this is that one you fought for for months as a whole guild, but cooler" vibe.

Well yes its still only a cosmetic thing - yet i do think a mount is "more" than just a pet.
Also as Kawe points out - It has more or less the same model as Invincible, which at this point is the hardest mount to get in the game currently - which must really suck for thouse 3 guilds who's managed to get 1...

I can only assume they will be pretty pissed - personally I would be.

Every 5th person will end up with that mount being happy to pay 20€ for a steed that shoots stars out of its behind, blizz will make tones of money, and carried by success, will make common practice out of it, presenting "new unique" buyable for RL money items every few months. I just wonder how they didn't start with this earlier.

The step is pretty far going from vanity items to real competitive items.

How many competitive items can you buy with gold from vendors for example? And how many pets/mounts/shirts/dresses? Why can't you buy competitive items with gold? Same reason you won't see competitive items being bought with real money. And even so, they won't ever make competitive benefits exclusive to real money purchases. They're smarter than that.

Once Blizzard launches their new MMO and when Diablo 3 and StarCraft 2 has established a firm place on the market, I could see them harvesting WoW a bit more. But not until then.
