Heya,

So... could we get some kind of big, long-running game going? Civ 4? Empire Total War?

Are there games that don't require all the players to be sitting down at the same time?

Guess that's a problem when it comes to combat... hmm...

Any ideas?

Good idea, but there's no game that allows people to play independently without everyone being present, not that I know of that is.

Civilization is obviously a good choice, Imperialism 2, HoMaM (Heroes), and some from the Anno series, those are the ones I can think of from the top of my head. All of those are really old, isn't there any good turn-based strategy game out recently?

Man, I loved playing those at LANs, especially the games that lasted days :p

Ya! We used to play hot-seat HOMM3. Lotta fun.

Is multiplayer CIV4 still turn-based? Would people have to sit and wait for 30 minutes while someone else takes their turn?

Could still work if we all sit down for an hour each night or something.

Fun game I've gotten addicted to lately. Its like Football Manager, but you adminstrate your own team. We can create leagues etc to play eachothers teams.

I downloaded Sins of a Solar Empire to play with Malik, but he hasn't got around to teaching me yet. I think it's turn based though, and I heard it's quite good as well as epic lengthy games.

Well, a proper long-running game would need to be income-based in some way, I guess. You only recieve X amount of gold/recruits/resources per (timeframe), and combat doesn't require participation. That way it's a game that people can fiddle with for ages if they want to, but also just need to check in on a few times a day.

I'd love to do some Civ4 or HOMM3/4, but I guess those kind of games require the players to be present and paying attention to avoid it becoming really boring..

I am playing Outer Space. Online turn-based strategy game. Unfortunately you gotta be around for when the galaxies restart so you can start at the same time as others. Games can take even up to a year, although that happens rarely, but some 3-6 months games are where it's at. My galaxy started not long ago, so unfortunately you cant join me anymore.
