RCA to RCA between TV and CD player
« on: October 16, 2010, 09:38:36 pm »
I'm trying to connect my LG TV to a ~6 years old CD-player in order to use the speakers attached to it (My TV just makes a crackling BZZZZ noise when low bass is played, like the voice of Brooke Davis in OTH)
Anyway, I can't get it to work.
The TV has RCA and any kind of other input/output option, but the CD player is limited to RCA. I'm using a 2xRCA to 2xRCA (no idea what the fact that it says 2x means)

I set the CD player to AUX, but there's no sound from the speakers. I've consulted the manuals of both products, as well as gone through the menu system of my TV without luck. When I connect the cables into my TV, the speakers make the regular loud buzzing noise, but it doesn't play back any of the audio from the TV.
Tried turning the TV speakers off, restarting in all possible ways.. I'm blank!

Halp, any of you less technically challenged people!

Have you put the RCA cable in the Output holes on the TV, so its not in the Input holes ? Cant rly think of anything else, it should be as simple as you have done it.

I mean im using my parents old Kenwood Home Audio System(20+ years old) connected to my PC.

So when you say a CD-player I hope you mean some kind of Stereo with both cd-player and receiver in one unit.

Usually they have several RCA's you are sure you put them in the AUX input? They could output RCA's or RCA's for other stuff.

You are sure that the RCA's you connected them to in the tv are for output and not for input?

There is only one set of RCA holes in the CD-player. It's AUX/CDR input.
My TV also has one set of RCA holes, and a second one together with a yellow video hole (AV?)
Tried both without luck. I'll try RCA to headphone jacks if I don't get anywhere with this :/

Does it say output or line out near any of the rca's on the tv?

If they are meant for input your only option is to use the minijack for headphones.

TVs are not really designed for receiving INPUTS.

If it's like our TV, you have to tell the TV (with the on-screen menu) to use an external input.

The AV one says AV IN, while the other "component" RCA just says "Audio"..
I think I'll have to try the RCA to headphone jack, as I can't find any options anywhere on the on-screen menu related to my issue.

Well, you need a red and white socket on the TV -- not yellow! (That's video)

Good point, Grax :)

Wat, take pictures plx.

CAn't you just use minjack to minijack? Can do that with a simple audiocable.

He will probably have to do minijack->phono/rca. Which is what most people do to get sound from pc to stereo.

To avoid further confusion... Are u trying to send audio signal from TV to CD player or other way around?

Most of "modern" TV units have audio inputs that follow a yellow picture RCA, those are inputs for external sources such as consoles, DVD players etc. Most of the time they are on side panel on LG.
On the back panel of Your TV you should have 2-3 scart connectors aswell as D-Sub, s-video etc. If there are no RCA audio outputs there you can use headphone jacks>RCA as someone mentioned but it will stop TV speakers from playing it aswell.
Best option is to use scart adapter with 3 RCA on it, one is for picture and 2 are audio (stereo). Scart should have a in/out on it, set it to out and that should work just fine, in fact... if that doesnt work then ur CD thingy AUX input is broken.
Buzzing sound is normal when u connect input to input instead of output to input.
Dont get confused with that 2xRCA explanation, it just means signal would be mono otherwise since RCA is 2 pole and it cant transmit stereo signal unless if its used for digital connection.

P.S. Just write down ur TV model and I will look into it.
