Bloodline Champions
« on: February 01, 2011, 01:08:21 am »
Saw this game on HydraMist, anyone tried it yet or up for trying it this week? Looks good!

Description:

'Bloodline Champions' is a free-to-play online player vs. player arena game where players engage in short, intense battles of up to ten players divided into two teams. Each player must take control over one of several different bloodlines, each with their own unique weapons and abilities. Easy to learn, challenging to master - 'Bloodline Champions' is just as much fun for the casual player as it is for the hardcore gamer.

Different bloodlines in a set up complements each other, different maps and game modes need different tactics, and good teamwork is important. Spells travel towards where the player aim their mouse cursor, and can be avoided by enemy players, making every ability dependent on individual player skill. There is no mana and the cooldowns are short, ensuring that every match is full of intense, adrenaline-filled action.

Watched some stream of this game a while back. It was the first time in a very long time I've watched a game being played and had close to no idea what was going on or why I should care.

Not that it's a good or bad game. Sure ain't no spectator sport though.

i played BLC for about a month while it was in BETA and i must say that i absolutely loved (almost) everything about it

the game is highly dynamic, combines some of the better elements [imo] of games like LoL/DOTA and WoW arena. One of the better parts is that you actually have to aim your spells.

the only reason i quit the game back then, is that eventho i passed some BETA keys everyone accepted em and then just continued playing WoW arena, whining about how unbalanced that shit is.

one of the only 'negative' parts i found in the game is that close to every cd has a cooldown of 1-15 seconds, which in some matches more or less made it a 'cc spam' fest, rather than using that one tactical cd at a great moment

the entire concept of 'Ultimates' resolves that somewhat btw. While healing/damaging your main objective is to get as many xp as possible to make sure ure one of the first with an ultimate, which usually is a game winner.

(i can play most roles btw, my main class was an Alchemist, which comes closest to a disc priest, with an aimable Mass Dispell on a short cd, apart from that i played quite a few games as Igniter (mage) and engineer (hunter) )

concluding, i think the game holds great potential. But, i do think it is a game that people get into, either love or dislike (people disliking it, are either LoL players who miss the creeping, or people who dislike old gfx/arena based games in general) but then only play for as long as they have a competitve feeling that comes with it.

the game literally, only holds competitve arena play, which unfortunately, whenever you're not seriously getting into the game might bore you rather quickly. However, if you do have some time spare, and you do get into the game, it holds quite alot for you. Balanced fast paced gameplay, a highly active community, setting up tournaments with shoutcasters quite often, and ofc, motherfucking James '2GD' Harding.

:)

is there no grind involved?

like, will I be at any mechanical disadvantage to players that have played 1000's of games? or purchased shit through microtransactions?

or is it purely human skill?

If it's skill only (like sc2, hon, l4d etc) I'd love to try it.

The game is free to play, but free accounts have certain restrictions.
That is there's a 6k/week blood coin cap and you currently only have access to four different bloodlines (these change every week, but it's always one of each archtype).

So you'll be at a disadvantage in the sense that you'll have to play a new bloodline every week for the first couple of weeks until you can afford to unlock one (17k Bloodcoins).

If you buy the game you get access to all the bloodlines immediately.

Other than the limited amount of bloodlines to chose from in the free version, there's nothing 'cept skill separating you and 'dem exalted beta testers or whomnot.
Read, comprehend, post.
