A Game of Ancients
« on: October 03, 2012, 02:57:47 pm »
In the last month we have played six inhouse games. We really should be doing more than that, but I guess the new expansion is really having an effect on people's playing times. It's still enough to accurately gauge the exact skill level of every player in Iron Edge and rank them based on that information.

So without further ado...

The Iron Edge Dota 2 Power Ranks

... A Song of Ice and Fire edition

1. Delling

Just like the rough politics of Westeros have taught us, it's not always the greatest warriors that come out on top. Instead pushing the correct buttons, being in the right place at the right time and carefully choosing your allies can lead to more success than your skill with the sword.

In the world of Dota Delling is not going to win games on his own, even when playing carry heroes he rarely acts as one, his best game of the month leaving him with only +3 K/D differential, significantly less than the warriors who follow.

But Delling finds a way to win, game after game after game. Maybe it's leadership, inspiration or dumb luck. No one can really say. What we do know is that he's been extremely successful despite shortcomings on the battlefield.

Delling seems to have broken free from his initial primary support role and has taken on more of an active laning role, even acting as the carry at times. His signature hero remains Tidehunter, played in the 3 or 4 position. His only loss came on his only game as the 5 position on Lich.

Well deserved with a 5-1 record this month.

2. Pluug

Aside from the obvious resemblance of Pluug and Brienne both being huge, they share more traits than Pluug would probably like to admit. They're both very blunt and straightforward in their approaches to everything, choosing a complete no-bullshit approach.

Pluug was running strong to a lossless month of Dota, until he ran into Millen's deadly invoker on the last game and fell short. One can only wonder if Pluug would've been able to secure the top slot had he not missed one of the games.

Pluug played a variety of heroes and stomped more games than anyone else this month. He only played the 1 or 2 roles on the teams he played on, most often acting as the teams primary farmer in the 1 position.

Pluug's 4-1 record is highlighted by his stunning double divine rapier Luna play, where he stomped harder than anyone else this month, with a 14 K/D differential.

3. Sintrael

Again we have a noticable similarity in body shape, even if this power rank deals more with mentalities. Boastful, confident and noticably lacking in finer understanding of the game (of thrones), Sintrael and Robert Baratheon are surprisingly similar in many ways.

Sintrael prefers Robert's approach of winning with brute force. His general gameplan mostly consists of "pick a hero in the 2 position, stomp". This gameplan seems to be working out okay for Sint, since he came out of this month without a single loss to stain his name.

His signature game came when he held the fort on Storm Spirit, playcalling the entire game while giving his carry the time to farm towards the unstoppable.

His 3-0 Record is the only lossless record on the top 5 list.

4. Tyler

Leadership, steadyness, reliabilty, and of course age, is something these men share. Tyler prefers to lead from the back, taking on the hard support position in almost all his games.

With his arsenal of support heroes, Tyler may be the most versatiel support player in Iron Edge, being able to play almost all of them at a high level.

Tyler's Venomancer play where he fell behind against a really aggressive offensive trilane, but yet managed to bounce back and keep his carry farming was one of his strongest showings.

Tyler finished the month with a 3-1 record to his name.

5. Cwave

Cwave is Theon Greyjoy. Ambitious and resourceful, but often lacks better judgement and he's not the bravest of warriors. They also both have pretty hair.

Cwave quietly ended the month with a strong 3-2 record, playing exclusively in the 4 and 5 positions. I'm not sure if this is some kind of hidden desire from back in the day when shamans did not have any crowd control, but every hero Cwave played had a strong disable in one way or another.

Maybe he just likes stunning people, who knows?

Cwave picked up one of his favorite heroes in Line to play the only dual hard lane in the six games, where he proceeded to stomp on the Dire's safe lane. Maybe it's a sign that we should play more strong 2-1-2 setups?

His 3-2 Record is the least good in the top 5, but well, that's why he's number 5.

Random Stats
  • Rubick and Venomancer were the most picked heroes, both played in 4 out of the 6 games.
  • The most stompy performance was Pluug's 705 gpm 18-4 Luna.
  • Game is perfectly balanced, Radiant and Dire both won 3 games.
  • Offensive Trilanes were used three times, they were 2-1.
  • Standard 1-1-3 or 1-1-1-2 setups with a carry lane were used 7 times for 3 wins and 4 losses
  • The two remaining setups are 2-1-2 with a farming pudge, and a 1-2-2 with a DK/Venge Midlane.
  • Kawe Denied 37 creeps on his invoker. He also went 10-1 that game.
  • Only 2 people farmed over 500 GPM, Pluug twice on Luna (705) and Juggernaut(590). Palmar on Lone druid (580).
  • Highest XPM was Pluug's luna at 779.
  • Tidehunter and QoP were picked 3 times for 3 wins each.
  • Windrunner was picked 3 times and lost every game. Sand King also lost his 3 games.

Hobo of the week

Tyler had 128 GPM on Venge

Shit Tier: Vorte

Honorable mention goes to Ghost, who went 1-3 derping around in solo lanes all month long. But Vorte takes the cake on this one. His 2-4 record is atrocious and just goes to show sometimes it's not raw strength, but how you apply it that matters.

Vorte thinks he can carry on mirana, but he can't. He thinks he can jungle on Enigma but he can't. He thinks he can solo mid on Tinker but he can't, and his Sand King would make Pirate facepalm multiple times.

His saving grace comes in the form of being carried by Me or Pluug in two of the most stompy performances.

Vorte was a useless sack of shit in the games he played and deserves the shit tier. If Dota was showing up on time, Vorte would be Arches. If dota was staying at his keyboard Vorte would be Cwave. If dota was keeping it cool, Vorte would be me or Kawe.

You need to bring your A game next time Vorte.

Special thanks to Nach for helping with the theme
Special thanks to Grishnag for feeding in two games and then refusing to play again. 0-2. Maybe there should be a "pussy rank" for you.
Special thanks to all the new players that joined us this month

Stay tuned, for the next powerrank

Bonus content: Pluug Rape.

Insanity doesn't run in my family. Rather, it strolls through, taking its time, getting to know everyone personally.

Nice rankings as always Palmar was really enjoy reading it, I would prefear to be Baratheon over some Lady Knight but atleast she got this shiny armor whitch is cool!

I really missed "I use complex algorithms and tried and tested methods to determine the top players every week in our group. If you do not agree with my rankings, you're wrong." line in description.
